David Ellis is the Director of Strategic Capabilities and Partnerships at Ball Aerospace. In this role, he leads the strategic capabilities function for Ball’s Engineering department and is responsible for identifying, assessing and demonstrating new technologies, which further Ball’s capabilities to field solutions to our customers’ toughest problems. This includes work in Ball’s advanced development area and participating in various technology advancement projects internally, and with the Intelligence Community (IC) and Deparment of Defencse (DoD), as well as scope and definition of critical internal R&D projects. Ellis also leads partnership efforts related to technology across the enterprise.
Prior to this role, Ellis led advanced technology development for the Ball payload engineering area, and business development for the National Defense Strategic Business Unit. Ellis brings over 17 years of experience in electronics systems and aerospace. He was previously with Qualcomm Government, developing advanced communications systems, as well as Northrop Grumman Electronics Systems.
Ellis received a M.S. in electrical engineering and a M.S. in engineering management, both from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and is a member of the Project Management Institute with PMP certification. He regularly lectures at the University of Colorado in the aerospace projects graduate program and is on the engineering department industry advisory board for the Denver campus.
